Hartford Foundation – NAGEC Strategic Planning Meeting held November 2, 2009
Dear Directors and Associate Directors of Geriatric Educations Centers:
Several months ago the John A. Hartford Foundation invited the National Association of Geriatric Education Centers (NAGEC) to partner in a strategic planning meeting to lay out future directions for the HRSA-funded Geriatric Education Centers (GECs). We convened this meeting in New York City on November 2nd, 2009 with participants representing the current and past NAGEC leadership, Hartford Foundation grantees, and Hartford Foundation program staff. The meeting participants agreed on a number of recommendations about the GECs to ensure their continued impact in geriatric education and training, including strategic partnerships, program evaluation, and competency-based training.
A draft of the attached report was shared with the membership at the annual NAGEC meeting in November during the GSA conference, at which time public comments were invited. The meeting participants also contributed to the draft which resulted in the attached document.
As a service to NAGEC members, we are pleased to share this document with you.
Sincerely,
Judith L. Howe (Immediate Past President of NAGEC)
Nora O’Brien-Suric (Sr. Program Officer, John A. Hartford Foundation)
